Linda Louise (Larsen) Smith

A bright light entered heaven as Linda Louise (Larsen) Smith passed away January 6, 2017. Linda was born to Harry and E. Alma (Schantz) Larsen on January 26, 1938.

Linda attended Muskegon and Hastings schools graduating from Hastings High School in 1956. One week later, on June 17th, she married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Smith. Together, they would raise their 3 children on the family's Goodwill Dairy farm home of the Lakegrove Holsteins. While Linda was a Stay-at-Home Mom, she also kept the farm’s financial records, registration records and helped with chores. In later years, Linda also worked part time at The Leigh Ann Store, Hodges Jewelry and Bull Creek Veterinary clinic.

Because of the strong agriculture influence on the once city girl, Linda delved into all activities that her family became involved in. Linda became a 4-H cooking leader, served on the 4-H Council and served as Assistant Dairy Superintendent at the Barry County Fair. Family involvement in the Registered Holstein Association led Linda to serve as both County and District Secretary. She served as clerk at numerous cattle shows County, District and State wide.

Along with her husband, Linda was a long- time Farm Bureau member and served as President of the County Farm Bureau Women for several years.

Linda followed the activities of her beloved grandchildren which led full circle to the Barry County fair.  She supported their efforts in showing sheep, and took delight in cheering the boys on during antique tractor club pulls.  Her grandchildren are very grateful for the memories made on many camping trips with Grandma and Grandpa.  Her grandchildren's sporting and band events were also a big highlight in her life.

Linda was an avid reader, but also loved sports, especially MSU and Lions football along with anything to do with NASCAR. She loved traveling and, together with her husband, traveled all over the south falling in love with the Natchez Trace. They also loved touring through upper Michigan, especially in the Traverse City wine region.

Linda was a member of the Hastings First United Methodist church and had participated in its’ Women’s circles.

Linda is survived by her 3 children Lisa (Buff) Coe, Michael Smith and Kristine (Morgan) Olson, her 3 grandchildren Kyle (Carolyn Moon) Stevens, Kelsey Stevens and Nathan (Jessica) Stevens, 4 step – grandchildren Amy Coe Clark, Adam Robinson, Jeremy McDonald and Erik Robinson and favorite brother-in-law Ben (Sharon) Smith.
