Hastings man dies in crash, woman hurt Posted About Eight Years Ago by Jean Gallup Troopers from the Michigan State Police/Wayland Post continue to investigate a one-vehicle crash that happened Sunday, April 17 at 2 a.m. in Rutland Township. Barry County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle when a caller said there was a car parked in the road and a man and a woman could be heard arguing. When deputies located the Pontiac Grand Prix and attempted to contact the occupants, the driver, David Scott, 35, from Hastings, fled east bound on West Quimby Road and crashed about quarter-mile east of Tanner Lake Road. Scott died at the scene. An unidentified 28-year-old woman passenger in the car was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Scott was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Troopers were assisted on scene by the Barry County Sheriff's Department, Mercy EMS, Hastings Fire Department and Aircare. Read All
