Tuesday at approximately 3:10pm, The Michigan State Police responded to the Hastings Airport for a report of a plane crash. The pilot, a 31 year old woman from Kentwood, had difficulty while landing the single engine Piper Cherokee 180 resulting in the plane veering left and running off the runway. The plane collided with an embankment off the runway suffering damage to the propeller, front of the plane, and part of the landing gear. The plane was damaged as well as a runway light adjacent to the landing strip. Besides a minor laceration to the pilots’ forehead, the pilot and a 24 year old male passenger from Frankenmuth were okay. Gusty winds are believed to have complicated the pilots’ landing contributing to the crash. The incident has been turned over to the FAA for further investigation.
