City Council appoints Interim City Manager

Gregg Guetschow, Ph.D. of Charlotte was selected by the Hastings City Council to serve as Interim City Manager, effective May 3rd.  Current City Manager Jerry Czarnecki’s is retiring, his last day will be May 7th.  Guetschow will fill the position while a search process is completed by the Michigan Municipal League and Czarnecki’s permanent replacement is named.

 

Guetschow is the President and CEO of Gregg Guidance LLC, a firm that provides consultancy and transitional services for nonprofits and governments. He has over 40 years of experience as a city manager in Michigan. His career began in Otsego as an administrative intern and assistant, was appointed village manager of Dundee from 1979 to 1981, served eight years as city manager for Hillsdale, seventeen years as city manager of Owosso. Guetschow served as interim, then as city manager for Charlotte for 13 years, and was most recently the interim manager for Ionia.

 

The council approved paying him $80 an hour plus mileage and business expense reimbursement for an estimated 30 to 40 hours a week to perform all the duties and functions of city manager as outlined in the city charter. Guetschow said his goal is to have a smooth transition between permanent managers and to make sure that city government operations “don’t miss a beat”.
