18 year old Patrick Gilmore of Hastings will spend the rest of his life in prison for  killing 17 year old Lane Rosland in September 2021.

 A dispute over marijuana led to the killing. Gilmore shot and killed Roslund with a crossbow and buried his body in his backyard near Hastings. Police found Roslund's body in a shallow grave on Gilmore's property near M-43. 

Gilmore told the State Police he intentionally place Roslands sweatshirt and belongings near the Thornapple River to trick investigators into thinking Rosland drowned.

In sentencing Gilmore, Barry County Judge Schipper determined Gilmore was irreparble corrupt and didn't meet any non-life sentencing criteria for a juvenile offender.
