38th annual "Old Fashioned" 4th of July & Veteran's BBQ at Charlton Park

A celebration to honor America’s independence will be held on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Historic Charlton Park in Hastings.  Festivities during the 38th annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July and Veteran’s Barbecue take place from 12-3 p.m.  Parking and admission are free.

 

A flag raising ceremony featuring representatives from all five military branches and a presentation by the Lawrence J. Bauer American Legion Post 45 takes place in front of the Upjohn House at noon. Field-day style games for all ages will be held on the Village Green at 1:00 p.m. including three-legged and sack races, watermelon and pie eating contests, needle in a haystack and baby crawl. 

 

Many talented bakers will showcase their skills as they vie for the honor to be named 2022 grand champion during the annual “fun time” pie auction contest. All pies are to be auctioned off to highest bidder and for the pie that raises the most money the Baker and Bidder will be awarded prizes. Proceeds from the pie auction go to the special event fund at Charlton Park.

 

Smokin 8’s Barbecue a Veteran owned business will be here serving up favorites like Brisket Sandwiches, Smoked Chicken, Pulled Pork, and Brats, cost varies on selected items. A portion of the proceeds support the local American Legion.  

 

Come early or stay late and enjoy the beach, fishing, picnic area, hiking trails or boat launch.  The Historic Village is also open for self-guided tours.  The Park is open every day from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. www.charltonpark.org for more information.
