Felonious Assault/Fleeing & Eluding

On Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at approximately 6:30 PM, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to the Walmart Store located at 6065 Gull Road in Comstock Township for reports of a man inside the store with a gun. Upon arrival, officers learned that a subject inside the store had threatened a family with a small black handgun during a confrontation. As officers were taking the report, witnesses observed the suspect leaving the store heading toward a black sedan. Officers attempted to stop the suspect in the parking lot, but the suspect refused to follow the officer’s commands and fled the area in the vehicle. Officers quickly caught up with the vehicle, then attempted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, however the subject did not comply and fled at a high rate of speed. As the Sheriff’s Office pursued the fleeing suspect, additional Deputies deployed spike strips to disable the suspect’s vehicle. These Attempts were successful in deflating the vehicle tires however the subject continued to flee, placing the motoring public in great danger. As the fleeing vehicle entered a residential neighborhood, an intentional collision was performed by the Sheriff’s Office rendering the vehicle inoperable. The subject then exited and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody by a Deputy after a short foot pursuit. A firearm was recovered at the scene and this subject will be facing charges of felonious assault, fleeing and eluding, resisting obstructing officers, and felony firearm. The 17-year-old suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo County sheriffs office or silent observer.
