Barry COW meeting

The Barry County Board of Commissioners held it's Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting Tuesday morning.

The Committee interviewed Juli Sala and voted to recommend her to fill a partial term for the Planning Commission.  Craig Jenkins was interviewed and recommended for a partial term on the Zoning Board of Appeals, and Donald Johnson III was interviewed and recommended to fill a partial term on the Solid Waste Oversight committee as an industry representative. Also interviewed for a partial term on the Community Mental Health Authority Board was Lorraine Lindsey; there is one more candidate left to interview for that position. Those appointments will be finalized at next weeks Board of Commissioners meeting.

The Committee of the Whole recommend renewal of the Blue Cross Blue Shield agreement for health care of inmates at the county jail who do not have their own insurance. The County is responsible for the costs associated with medical care of inmates while they are incarcerated and under the care, custody and control of the Barry County Sheriff.

Barry County Clerk Pam Palmer presented a request for two additional full time deputy clerks.  She said additional staff has become necessary due to expanded job duties in the Clerk’s Office.  After much discussion, the Committee of the Whole recommended one new full time employee for now, and will make a final decision on that after receiving the Audit Report for the current county budget at the June 27 Board of Commissioners meeting.
