The driver accused of striking and killing tow truck driver Keagan Spencer of Hastings in November 2023 in Southern Kent County has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge.

Payton Ferris entered his plea Wednesday morning on a charge of a moving violation causing death, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail. The crash happened on Nov. 4th, 2023 on eastbound M-6 near Kraft Ave. in Caledonia Township.

Ferris remains free on bond and will be back in 63rd District Court in Grand Rapids for sentencing Monday December 16th.
