Hastings City Council news 5-27-25

Mike Bergeron is the newest member of the Hastings City Council. Bergeron took the Oath of Office to represent Hastings’ First Ward at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, filling a vacant seat.

Council approved the final site plan for the Bachman Fields Planned Unit Development with the contingencies recommended by the Planning Commission, and approved an Industrial Development District for city-owned property on Star School Road for future development.

Construction engineering by Moore and Bruggink in the amount of $434,500 was approved, and by a 5 to 3 vote the low bid by Kamminga & Roodvoets was accepted to complete the Green and Market Street project for $5,812,484.55, contingent upon the city obtaining financing. Preliminary work and tree removal is underway and actual construction is set to take place in 2026.

Discussion took place concerning water and sewer hookup for a future Meijers location in Rutland township and the council passed a resolution to allow service to that location, with contingencies, as the development process moves forward.
