Michigan State Police troopers from the Wayland Post are investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occured 6:00pm Saturday, July 25th on East Brown Road and West of Fry Road in Carlton Township.
According to a preliminary investigation, a pick-up truck traveling westbound left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire.
The 17 year old male driver, a resident of the Freeport area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A female passenger from the Sunfield area suffered critical injuries and was airlifted by Aeromed to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The Crash investigation remains open. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash. It is also unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.
Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by Barry County Sheriff, Freeport Fire Rescue, Nashville Police Department, Life EMS and Aeromed.
