Charles P. McCabe III

Charles P. McCabe III, 69, (formerly of Hastings) died early Wednesday morning, November 2, at home in Naperville IL.  Chuck was born October 16, 1953 in Charleston WV to Charles P. McCabe Jr. and Lois Stanard McCabe. 

 

He is a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, Marshall University in Huntington, WV and earned his Masters in Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA. 

 

He was ordained a priest in 1987 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, WV where he served as assistant rector.  He then served as rector at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hastings, MI in the Diocese of Western Michigan from 1990-2007. 

 

While in Hastings, Chuck was very involved in, and committed to, the community.  He served on the Barry County Mental Health Board, the Hastings Ministerial Association and was Chair of the Eastern  Deanery of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan. 

 

Chuck met his wife of 49 years, Frankie Winfree, at Peterkin Conference Center in Romney WV when they served as camp counselors at the Episcopal church camp in the summer of 1973.

 

Chuck and Frankie have one son Jason (Nicole) and two grandsons, Oliver (Ollie) and Owen.  Chuck is the oldest of 5 brothers including Bert (Cyndy), Stan, Jim (Mary) and Marshall (Lane).  He is also survived by Frankie’s siblings Mickey (Domenic) Pellillo, Woody (Cynthia) Winfree and Marti (Carl) Grainger and many nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.  His brother Stan and both his parents preceded him in death. 

 

It was Chuck’s wish to be cremated. A memorial service will be held in Hastings sometime next spring.
