Correction:  the new commission will included ten members.

 

The Barry County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution establishing the Barry County Parks and Recreation Commission. The new commission will replace the existing Charlton Park Board and the Parks and Recreation Board, effective January 1, 2020.

 

Prior to adoption an amendment was made to specify the make-up of the new commission;  there will be 10 members:  One will be a county commissioner, two will come from the expiring Parks and Recreation Board,  two will come from the expiring Charlton Park Board,  one will be from the Thornapple Trail Association, and one from the Charlton Park Gas and Steam Engine Club. Also,

1 Member from the Planning Commission or Designee

1 Member from the Road Commission or Designee

1 Member for the Drain Commissioners Office or Designee

 

The new commission will be able to leverage more state and federal grant money for the county parks system.
