Help for Farmers in Barry County

After what was a devastating planting season for many farmers including Barry County Farmers, some relief may be in sight.

Heavy rains fell in West Michigan between may 2018 and April 2019 making it the 3rd wettest year on record in Michigan. Flooded or muddied fields prevented many farmers from planting and harvesting their crops.

In a letter to The governor from U.S. Agricultures Secretary Sonny Perdue the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced 43 Michigan Counties including Barry County  as primary natural disaster areas.

Farmers seeking assistance are encouraged to contact their local USDA Farm Services Agency office.
